Naana Jane Opoku selected by John Mahama as his running mate for NDC’s 2020 Elections



The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama have picked his former Education Minister Professor Naana Opoku-Agyeman as his running mate for the 2020 general elections.

John Dramani Mahama, revealed her (Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyeman) at a meeting held in Adabraka (The NDC’s National Executive Committee) at the party’s headquarters today.

Prof.Naana happened to be one of the 5 scholars selected to deliver their presentations during the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery at the 4th United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

On the 26th October 2018, she became the Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa located in Zimbabwe.

She prevailed after a stiff competition from the former Finance Ministers and the governor of the Central Bank Dr. Kwabena Duffour, who is deemed to be favoured by the grassroots of the party.

Born in 22 November 1951 in Cape Coast, Ghana,Prof. Naana attended Anglican Girls secondary school at Koforidua and Aburi Presby Girl’s School.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku taught and worked at the University of Cape Coast, starting in the year 1986.

The former President John Dramani Mahama wrote on his Facebook post ;

“The National Executive Committee of our great party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) this afternoon, unanimously, endorsed my nomination of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman as my Running Mate for the December 2020 election”.

From the year 1997, she held the position of Academic Director of the School for International Training in the History and Cultures of the African Diaspora.
